Scope and Contents
The collection consists of more than 400 black and white photographs taken by Al Severson. Many are assignment photos that were taken in Tampa for Burgert Brothers; others feature Severson's fiance Vivian Spring and actress Colleen Moore, as well as sports figures and athletes. Initially comprising of six albums and scrapbooks, the albums and scrapbooks have been unbound and discarded due to preservation concerns.

Biographical or Historical Information
Alvin H. "Al" Severson (1898 - 1981) was a photographer for Burgert Brothers, a commercial photography studio that worked primarily in the Tampa Bay area. In the 1940s, Severson became part owner of Burgert Brothers after Al Burgert retired and sold the business to his nephew, Thel Burgert, and Severson. In the 1950s, Severson became the sole owner of the company upon Thel Burgert's departure. The studio continued to operate as Burgert Brothers until Severson's retirement in 1963.
