Biographical or Historical Information
The University of South Florida PRIDE Alliance (People Respecting Individual Diversity and Equality) provides an on-campus support system through which, by interaction with their peers, LGBTQIA+ students, and their allies may realize their full potential. In addition, the Alliance educates the University of South Florida community by serving as an information reception and dispersal source in order to dispel myths and stereotypes often associated with LGBTQIA+ community members. The Alliance, formerly known as the Gay Coalition, was founded in 1974, and is the oldest continuously funded gay campus-based organization in the state of Florida. Over the course of its history, the Alliance expanded to welcome all members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
