Biographical or Historical Information
In 1930, Emma Jones of Texas established the Navy Mothers’ Club, which quickly expanded across the United States. The Tampa chapter - the first chapter in Florida - was organized in 1936 and offered open enrollment for families who had relatives in the Navy, the Marine Corps, and the Coast Guard. Club members performed various welfare tasks and promoted a friendly, sympathetic, and social relationship among the parents of men and women serving in the Navy.
