Biographical or Historical Information

Roy R. (Robin) Lewis received his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Florida in 1966, a master’s degree in biology from the University of South Florida in 1968, and finally he worked on postgraduate work from USF in 1973. Lewis’ professional career was extensive; In 1974- 1977 he was a professor of biology at Hillsborough Community College, and in 1975 he founded the Mangrove System, Inc., an environmental consulting company. In 1989 he founded another environmental consulting firm located in Tampa, FL called Lewis Environmental Services, Inc. He was a member of many professional organizations, president of Coastal Resource Group, Inc., and former chairman of the biology department at Hillsborough Community College.  Lewis’ research and work has been centered around ecology, management, restoration and creation of fresh and saltwater marshes, mangrove forests, forested freshwater forests, and seagrass meadows, oil spills, dredging, plant and animal colonization, and environmental restoration.
