Biographical or Historical Information

Dr. Evelyn Millis Duvall (1906-1998) was a pioneer in the field of family development. Duvall, who earned recognition and awards for her research, published one of the first books on dating for teenagers, Facts of Life and Love for Teenagers (1950). She was executive director of the National Council on Family Relations from 1945-1951, and she lectured at various national and international universities from 1954-1969. In 1971, she gave a keynote address at the White House Conference on Aging. Dr. Duvall was honored with an endowed chair in Family Development in 1985, a first for the USF Sarasota campus. Since the endowment’s inception, internationally recognized scholars have lectured and led professional seminars at the campus. Sources: Brown, Karen.
