Biographical or Historical Information

Citrus Park Colored School, built in 1924 on Gunn Highway in Citrus Park, FL was a one-room school house used by the area's African American community. Before closing in 1948, the school building also was used for church meetings and other community activities. In 1949, trustees of the Mt. Pleasant AME Church bought the building and held services there until the 1950s. In 1996, the Citrus Park Colored School, which was known as the Amanda James Fellowship Building, was designated a Hillsborough County Landmark.
