Scope and Contents

Consists of materials related to Antonio Pereira's activities as a professional wrestler and his work with the Boy Scouts of America and the West Tampa Boys Club.  Includes correspondence, reports, news clippings, awards, trophies, and photographs.  Also includes a key to the city of Tampa, presented by Mayor Nick Nuccio in 1967.

Biographical or Historical Information

Antonio Pereira was a Spanish national who immigrated to the United States through Cuba. Shortly after World War I, he toured as a professional wrestler with Ringling Brothers Circus. In 1926, Pereira settled in West Tampa, where he founded both the West Tampa Boys Club and Boy Scout Troop 38. He died in 1988. Sanchez, Arsenio M. "Revisiting the Historical Markers of West Tampa."
