Scope and Contents
The bulk of this collection consists of photographs and printed materials, such as personal correspondence, marriage certificates, and deeds. Items of particular interest include: numerous photographs of Jose, Carmen and Jose González, Jr.; the marriage certificate of Jose González y Fernandez and Carmen Yraolo; a World War I draft card exempting Jose González from service due to “residential alien” status (Class V); and three personal diaries.

Biographical or Historical Information
José Atilano González y Fernández (April 9, 1891- May 30, 1972), native of Luarca, Spain. As a young man, González left Spain for Cuba to “dedicate himself to commerce.” After residing in Spain, Cuba, and the United States for brief periods of the late 1800s, González permanently moved to Tampa, Florida, during the early 20th century, in order to establish permanent residence and pursue unnamed business ventures. In 1932, González married Carmen Rosalía Yraolo (July 17, 1903- ), a native of Cuba; the couple had one son, Jose, Jr. A member of the Centro Asturiano mutual aid society of Ybor City, González served as Club Secretary for a number of years.
