The bulk of this collection consists of photographs and printed materials, such as personal correspondence, marriage certificates, and deeds. Items of particular interest include: numerous photographs of Jose, Carmen and Jose González, Jr.; the marriage certificate of Jose González y Fernandez and Carmen Yraolo; a World War I draft card exempting Jose González from service due to “residential alien” status (Class V); and three personal diaries.

Abstract Tampa midwife Maria Messina Greco's midwife records span from 1908 to 1939. Maria Messina Greco, was a Sicilian immigrant and midwife who began delivering babies in Tampa, Florida as early as 1907. She kept a record of each birth in a series of 62 small notebooks. Maria was well educated, having earned a degree in midwifery at the University of Palermo in Sicily. She was said to have delivered as many as 2,000 babies before she came to the United States. Wehman Collection of Florida Spanish American War Photographs

Images in this collection depict military camp life of officers stationed in Tampa during the Spanish American War, as well as the innerworkings of the Port of Tampa during the period. Identified regiments include: 4th Cavalry, 69th New York, and 32nd. Unidentified troops, cavalry, medical officers, bugle players, officers, and Red Cross officials are represented in the photographs. Also pictured are ships, weaponry, and military drills.
